Trailer carrying racehorse rolls over on Thruway
A racehorse brought Wednesday morning?s rush hour traffic on the NYS Thruway to a screeching halt after its trailer broke free and rolled over. State police say 43-year-old Joseph Rubeo, of Yonkers, was towing a horse trailer behind his SUV on the Thruway when he lost control and smacked into a guardrail. The impact caused the trailer to break loose and flip over with the horse trapped inside. The horse was sedated to prevent it from moving and struggling as it was removed from the damaged trailer. Rockland Paramedic Lt. Greg Berger was the first emergency responder on scene. He assisted the veterinarian in getting an IV started for the horse. The racehorse, named Ke Trump, suffered some injuries to its head.
Horse trainer Chris Briscoe says while accidents are common when shipping horses, the outcome is usually different. Briscoe says Ke Trump is lucky to be alive.
