Transit union accepts deal to end strike: Latest news and commuter information for HV
The three-day transit strike has come to an end Thursday with the Transport Workers Union voting to return to work.
Union board members said the 33,000 workers will return to their job sites starting with the next shift. The vote was overwhelmingly in favor of returning to work and resuming negotiations with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
The MTA says service will restart in about 10-18 hours, with buses moving sooner. Seven and 30-day MetroCards will be reimbursed for three days to cover the strike period, and holiday fares will be extended to January 2.
Meanwhile, the TWU vice president says he strongly voted no and called the vote a disgrace.
