Tremont McDonald's reportedly used as hot spot for drug sales
Tremont residents are complaining about alleged criminal activity at a local McDonald's.
They say that the fast-food restaurant on East Tremont Avenue has become a hot spot for dealers to sell cocaine and heroin.
The NYPD tells News 12 three people have been arrested for selling drugs there.
"The NYPD has found needles and condoms in the bathroom," Councilman Ritchie Torres says. "There are patients from a local methadone clinic known to engage in heroin transactions at the McDonald's."
Officials from the methadone clinic located across the street from the McDonald's, VIP Community Services, say that people seeking treatment could be met with temptation.
Debbian Fletcher-Blake, the CEO of VIP Community Services, says there are people in the community who prey on those who are in treatment.
Fletcher-Blake also says her team is willing to intervene at McDonald's and help those who are purchasing drugs.
"As a proud Bronx owner/operator for nearly 30 years, I take this issue very seriously,” the McDonald's owner told News 12 in a statement. “At McDonald's, our biggest priority is always the safety and well-being of our employees and customers. We have added security at this restaurant and partnered with the 48th Precinct to address the community's concerns. We are continuing to work with Councilman Torres, the 48th Precinct, Community Board 6 and other local stakeholders to find a resolution that benefits all parties."
Torres says he is putting together a meeting with all parties involved to resolve the issue.
