Truck flips over guardrail, snarls I-87 in Rockland
The driver of a tractor-trailer is lucky to be alive today after his rig crashed on I-87 in Rockland County early this morning.
Police say around 3 a.m., a southbound truck rear-ended a Hyundai on the southbound side of the highway near exit 12. The truck flipped over a guardrail into oncoming traffic and then went 150 feet down an embankment. The Hyundai crashed as well, totaling the vehicle.
Both drivers suffered minor injuries.
Two lanes were closed overnight between exits 11 and 12, but were reopened about 6 a.m.
Traffic officials brought a crane out to remove the wreckage from the embankment, but it was determined that traffic would be too severely impacted. Officials plan to remove the truck at 2 a.m. tomorrow.
