Two Orange County residents, NYC firefighters recover from burns sustained in deadly blaze
Two New York City firefighters from Orange County are recovering Monday from burns sustained after battling a three-alarm fire that killed two of their fellow firefighters.Lt. John Grasso of Monroe and Wayne Walters of Warwick responded to a three-alarm fire in the Bronx on Sunday that quickly spread through a 99-cent store. They were among five firefighters who fell through the store?s first floor and landed in the basement where they were pulled from piles of burning debris.Grasso suffered burns to his legs and is in stable condition at New York Presbyterian. Walters was treated and released from Jacobi Medical Center. Neighbors describe Walters as distraught over the deaths of two of his fellow firefighters, rookie Michael Reilly, 25, and veteran firefighter Lt. Howard Carpluk, 43.
