Unemployment benefits set to expire
Tens of thousands of New Yorkers receiving unemployment benefits, including 4,000 in the Hudson Valley, could lose their benefits by the end of the week.
Anita Dean, of Orangetown, is one of 46,000 New York residents who have been receiving unemployment checks for the past 99 weeks and are now about to lose their only source of income.
Dean, a former executive assistant, says she has been searching for a new job since 2007, but without success.
Thom Kleiner, of the State Department of Labor, says the job outlook in the region is improving, but not fast enough. He hopes Congress will step up and extend unemployment benefits.
