Maria Ferrari Children's Hospital in Valhalla is using music therapy to help its youngest patients suffering from pain.

Music therapist Laurie Park visits infants and children at the hospital where she sings and plays the guitar for them.

Dr. Lance Parton, a neonatologist says the music therapy has many benefits such as a shorter hospital stay. According to Parton, the music also helps babies feed better, and they adapt to their environment easier.

The Hudson Valley hospital is involved in a two-year study evaluating the effect of using live music to ease the pain that premature babies experience. Thirty infants will take part in the study, which lasts two weeks for each baby.
