Rockland County Executive Scott Vanderhoef has unveiled his 2010 budget proposal, which includes a 4.7 percent property tax increase and a $708 million spending plan.
The budget also calls for the elimination of 150 county jobs, but Vanderhoef says layoffs will be avoided thanks to early retirement incentives.
However, Orangetown Town Supervisor Thom Kleiner says there would be no need for tax increases or cuts if the budget wasn't mismanaged.
"I would want to look behind these numbers to see if revenue has been raised accurately," he says.
The budget is expected to be passed in December following a review by the county Legislature and go into effect in January.
