A Warwick man was indicted Monday in the fatal stabbing of his friend in an incident police say stemmed from a love triangle.
Dwayne Brooks, 31, will be arraigned Tuesday, March 27 on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Police found 32-year-old Michael Bristow last week lying in a pool of blood. Authorities say Brooks had been drinking with the victim when Brooks, in a jealous rage, stabbed Bristow in the heart with a kitchen knife. Police say the suspect's current girlfriend was the victim's ex-girlfriend, whom the victim had fathered a child with.
Police say the suspect briefly went on the run. "He subsequently turned himself in after his family urged him to do so and was picked up in Newburgh," said Lt. Thomas Maslanka, of the Warwick Police Department.
Bristow is being remembered as a dedicated father of two and Good Samaritan who recently helped his neighbors escape a fire in his Middletown apartment building.
