Washingtonville residents return to survey damage
Evacuated residents returned to Washingtonville Tuesday to survey damage caused by the powerful nor?easter.
The rising water level created a state of emergency in the village. Some houses remain surrounded by water. A creek is still flowing over some streets, such as Cardinal Drive. The Brookside Manor Trailer Park was hit especially hard. Some residents had to be evacuated by boat.
Many returned to the in mobile homes and found water had come up to the first level, but did not go inside. Others came home to see if their cars will start. Jim Barrett, who has lived in the village for 30 years, says the damage was the worst he had even seen.
