A water main break in Portchester Friday has left dozens of neighboring residents without safe drinking water.
The water main break happened on Pilgrim Drive between Quintard Drive and the Connecticut state border.
A spokesperson for the utility company says crews were doing repair work when they struck an asbestos concrete main.
As of Friday evening, as a precautionary measure, the Westchester County Department of Health strongly urges residents not to drink the water through Sunday. Residents are also being advised not to use tap water to prepare food, brush teeth, bathe, wash clothes or flush toilets.
In the meantime, crews are giving out jugs of water to residents affected.
Residents with concerns or questions are asked to call United Water Westchester or the Westchester County Department of Health.
