The cold temperatures caused a water main break in Congers Tuesday morning leaving a dozen homes without water for a few hours.

The water main break happened at about 6:30 a.m. and water service was restored early in the afternoon. Although workers with United Water were able to close the main off, water got into one basement.

The water company waited for Orange and Rockland Utility to stabilize a nearby utility pole before they started making repairs to the water main.
