New Canaan's three selectmen voted unanimously to issue a request for proposal to upgrade security systems at town-owned buildings - including installing security cameras at the Waveny Park entrances.
The vote came down Tuesday.
The park cameras were the focus of an online petition launched after the disappearance of Jennifer Dulos – a mother of five at the center of a missing persons case that has grabbed national headlines.
News 12 has reported that Dulos was reported missing on May 24. Police found evidence of a crime scene at her New Canaan home and believe she was the victim of a “serious physical assault” in her garage.

Police say they found her SUV abandoned on Lapham Road near the park. In the following days, law enforcement swarmed Waveny Park as the search for Dulos intensified.
Hilary Ormond, the petition’s organizer, says she worked all summer to get police and Parks and Recreation on board with adding cameras. She says she hopes the cameras will offer an added sense of security for the park’s many visitors.
“New Canaan is an incredibly safe town. This is an incredibly safe park…but we can always make it safer,” she told News 12.
The cost estimate for the cameras will be included in next year's town budget. It's likely they won't be installed in the park until next summer.
