WC?s 2nd probable swine flu case reported in Rye
Westchester health officials said Saturday a second student in Rye came down with a probable case of the swine flu.
On Friday, county health officials announced that the first probable case of the swine flu in Westchester was also found in Rye. The names and ages of the patients have not been released, but both are said to be doing well and recovering at home.
"It seems like people are recovering, so that does give me some measure of calmness," says Laura Rolnick, of Greenwich.
In the second probable case, the child became ill while being at home, not at school, and local health officials say there has not be an increase in absences at the child's school. Westchester County is awaiting test results from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to find out whether both Rye students were infected with swine flu.
Earlier in the week, two students at Rye School of Leadership became ill with symptoms consistent with swine flu, and samples were sent out for testing. In Orange County, the number of probable flu cases reached three, while in Rockland County officials are waiting for test results on one suspected case.
