West Nile virus has been detected in the Bronx, but the city is taking steps to prevent it from spreading. 

The Health Department says that for the first time this summer season, the mosquito-borne virus has turned up in the borough's 10464 and 10475 zip codes. However, only mosquitoes and no humans have tested positive at this time. 

Officials will be spraying pesticide by helicopter over affected areas, which include Pelham Bay Park. The larvicide is not toxic to people. 

West Nile can cause flu-like symptoms and more serious complications. Everyone is urged to always wear repellent when heading outdoors.
