West Nyack test driver raves about GM hydrogen car
A West Nyack man is one of just four consumers who gets to take home and test out Chevy?s new hydrogen-powered vehicle, and he says he?s in love.
Eric Rotbard gets to drive the Chevy Equinox for three months. The car needs no oil, transmission fuel or gasoline. Once the tank is filled with hydrogen, it mixes with oxygen. That reaction generates electricity which runs the car.
?You've got energy independence to satisfy national security concerns, because hydrogen is the most plentiful element in the universe?? Rotbard says. ??and it also is the cleanest, because there's nothing that comes out except for water vapor.?
The Chevy Equinox gets roughly 46 miles per kilogram of hydrogen.
?I think it?s just absolutely fantastic,? Rotbard adds.
GM says it would like to have fuel cell cars available to the public by 2010. One of the complications lies in figuring out where hydrogen fuel stations would be located.
