YONKERS - Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino is calling for the resignation of state Health Commissioner Nirav Shah.

Astorino says Shah is purposely delaying a decision on a study about  hydraulic fracturing, or shale gas drilling, until after Election Day.

"The delays at the Department of Health, which are clearly political, have become a bad joke, but a joke costing New Yorkers thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in revenues," Astorino said this afternoon in a campaign video.

Astorino also cited a New York Post story that alleges many abortion and women’s health clinics have not been properly inspected over the last 13 years.

Commissioner Shah was appointed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2011.
