What's your favorite supermarket?

Consumer Reports says Trader Joes and Costco rate highly (3/28/14)

When it comes to supermarkets, sometimes bigger isn't always better.

Yonkers-based Consumer Reports just came out with its list of the nation's best grocery stores to shop for meat and produce. More than 27,000 readers rated the nation's major grocery stores based on service, quality of perishables, prices and cleanliness.

Wegmans Food Markets has been ranked the No. 1 supermarket in the country by customers, and Wal-Mart Superstore is ranked last in the list of 55 chains.

Other stores with high marks include Trader Joe's, Publix, Costco, Sprouts Farmers Market and Market Basket. Both Wegmans and Trader Joe's earned the highest marks for service, defined by employee courtesy and checkout speed.

According to the report, Wal-Mart ranked low because there is not enough open check-out counters and too many basic items were out of stock.
