A White Plains woman is suing both the Department of Correction and New York City officials for allegedly covering up a robbery and subsequent assault.
Attorney Gerard Bilotto says his client, Linda Shapiro, was robbed in a Manhattan bail office in 2016.
"The Department of Correction is covering up this case and the city of New York is covering for them. It's a double cover up,” he says.
Shapiro says she was robbed of $30,000 cash after waiting seven hours to bail her son out of jail. She says during the robbery, she was beaten so badly that she had a broken rib and needed surgery on her back.

Shapiro claims the employees were in on the attack and purposely made her wait 28 times longer than everyone else. She also says they kept insisting she wait outside the city building, making her more vulnerable to an attack.
Bilotto says his questions on the case, such as why there was no security enforcement or why the police weren’t called for over an hour, aren’t being answered.
"The witnesses are in the Department of Correction, all the data, all the documents, all the information, the video— everything is within the Department of Correction,” he says.
News 12 reached out to the city's legal team for comment. They say, “The allegations have not been substantiated. We'll know more about what happened in this case as we proceed with discovery."
The next day in court is Nov. 8.
