Woman arrested in double hit-and-run
A Rockland woman was arraigned Monday in connection with a double hit-and-run that injured one woman and killed another over the weekend.
According to police, at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday, 45-year-old Rosanne Schiavone was hit near the corner of Havilands Lane and Jennings Road by a speeding car driven by 37-year-old Sheldene Campbell.
Campbell then continued down the road, where she struck 65-year-old Marie Bucci, of White Plains, police say. Schiavone was hospitalized with a leg fracture. Bucci was killed.
Sources tell News 12 Westchester that Campbell may be mentally ill and could have purposely hit the two women.
People living in the neighborhood were able to give a description of Campbell?s car, allowing police to quickly find her just two miles away from the accidents.
Campbell, of Pomona, is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, but police say additional charges are likely. She was held overnight before being arraigned in City Court in White Plains.
