Woman evades authorities after robbing Wallkill bank
State police are looking for the woman caught on camera robbing a bank in Wallkill and attempting to rob a check cashing center in Middletown Monday.
Police say the woman walked into United Check Cashing on Dolson Avenue in Middletown in the morning and handed a note to clerk behind the counter. The note said the robber had a bomb and wanted cash, according to police. The clerk says the woman left without any money though.
About an hour later, police say the woman tried the same thing at a TD Bank North in Wallkill, but made it out with $2,500. Police launched searches from the air and ground, but did not find the suspect.
Some residents speculated the woman resorted to robbery out of financial desperation.
?Things are tough right now,? Anthony Delgado, of Middletown, says. ?People are desperate. They'll do anything to get money, they have no way of buying gifts, buying food and some people go out of their minds and they do these crazy things.?
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Middletown or state police.
