Woodbury police say a 22-year-old man is now under arrest for holding his girlfriend at knifepoint Thursday in her car.
Police allege the man was hiding in the backseat of his girlfriend’s car at Ramapo College in Mahwah, New Jersey and that when she got in he forced her to drive with a knife to her throat.
Authorities say the man was angry because the victim did not return his phone calls while she was in class.
They say he repeatedly punched the woman in her face with his fists and an object while he forced her to drive.
Police say she was eventually able to stop the car at a shopping mall parking lot in Woodbury and escape.
So far, authorities are not releasing the man’s name but say he was arrested by the Harriman train station after running from police.
Woodbury police say he is expected to be charged locally and in New Jersey.
They say the victim suffered visible injuries to her face but declined to be treated at the scene.
