Many workers gathered Thursday outside the Stock Exchange in Manhattan to protest the proposed $700 billion bailout of Wall Street, calling for conditions to come along with the financial bailout plan.

The city?s organized labor unions demanded repealing tax cuts and instituting public oversight of Wall Street.

The protest Thursday teamed up many different city workers, from transit employees to teachers, as well as big name activists like Jesse Jackson and Randi Weingarten, president of the United Federation of Teachers.

?Just like every single boss says to me there should be accountability for teachers, well there should be accountability for Wall Street,? Weingarten says.

Workers fear that it may be too late to rescue their retirement funds and pensions, and worry that their tax money will go toward the bailout, while Wall Street executives still receive hefty severance packages and bonuses.

Another rally hosted by Jackson is planned for Sept. 29.
