A wounded combat veteran who lost both legs while serving in Afghanistan was presented with specially made truck Friday in Orange County.

Retired Army Sgt. Justin Burdette, a Florida native, had been touring with the Military Order of the Purple Heart and driving the truck around the country. They made a stop Friday at the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor.

"I knew I was driving the truck, but I didn't know I'd be a recipient of it," he said.

The Ford F-150 is outfitted with special equipment and hand gears instead of foot pedals. It was donated by the Wounded Warriors Family Support Group.

"There's only two ways to take stuff,” said Sgt. Burdette. “Get depressed and lie around or get back on with what you're doing."

The truck is now helping Burdette to do just that.

Sgt. Burdette will now drive the truck to the tour's next stop in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
