Yonkers hostage murder leads to re-opening of cold case
The man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend in Yonkers was arraigned on a single count of second-degree murder Tuesday.
Frank Rizzo, 54, of New Rochelle, is charged with the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend, 49-year-old Carmela LaPuma, in her Yonkers home after a two-hour police standoff Friday. Prosecutors say the case is still under investigation and the charges may be upgraded to first-degree murder. Rizzo is being held without bail.
Rizzo was also the prime suspect in his wife?s disappearance 15 years ago. New Rochelle police say they were transferring the missing person case of Rizzo's wife to the district attorney's office.
