Yonkers Parks Department employees recognized Arbor Day by planting trees with School 21 and Sacred Hart students.
Arbor Day is meant to encourage planting and the care of trees.
Students from School 21 and Sacred Hart joined the parks workers in planting trees across the city, in places like Conor and Lenon parks.
School 21 Principal Leslie Powell-Grant also believes in the importance of the day.
"The kids get an opportunity to enjoy the outside and the trees. We will be taking advantage of it,” says Powell-Grant. “They like to see, we always do Earth Day. It's a nice little change for them to do Arbor Day.”
The city of Yonkers has been honored as a Tree City USA Community by the National Association of State Foresters and Arbor Day Foundation.
