While trying to stay warm in the dangerously cold weather, don't forget to protect things like your pipes.
Suez Water officials say there are ways to protect your pipes to prevent costly repairs.
First, they say to disconnect and drain all garden hoses around your home. Wrap water meters and water pipes in the basement with either commercial insulation or heat tape. Lastly, if you are leaving your home for some time, keep the heat on at a minimal level.
Bill Madden, Suez director of communications and government affairs, says water damage can displace people from their homes so it's something you want to avoid.
