A Yonkers woman claims her family was scammed by a Mount Vernon real estate company.
Several people have posted online that they've been scammed by Radio Real Estate. Another alleged victim of the company, a Mount Vernon woman, spoke to News 12 earlier this week saying that the same thing happened to her.
Katherine Schmidt says her family was scammed out of $20,000 and that they are currently living in a Yonkers hotel.
The family says they reached out to Radio Real Estate in mid-November after they were told they had until Dec. 15 to move out of their Yonkers apartment after their landlord sold the property.
When they found a home, Dawn Smith, the owner of Radio Real Estate, allegedly told them they needed to pay a large sum upfront because of unsatisfactory credit.
After the family paid it, Smith allegedly told them the landlord didn't want their pets in the building and they had to find a new home. Schmidt asked for the family's $20,000 after more showings, and has been calling Smith every day.
So far, Smith had only refunded $2,500 after the other checks bounced.
News 12 reached out to Dawn Smith for comment on this story, but has not yet heard back.
News 12 did speak to Smith earlier this week when a Mount Vernon woman came forward saying the same thing had happened to her. Smith had said she planned on paying that woman back.
She also said the other claims posted online were just unhappy clients.
