Youth football league treasurer arrested
It's game over for the former treasurer of the Warwick Youth Football League who was arrested for allegedly stealing from the non-profit group.Michael Sura, 42, is accused of stealing more than $30,000 while serving as treasurer of the football league. Sura admitted to pilfering the cash in June 2006 because of personal money troubles, according to New York State Police Lt. Pierce Gallagher. Kenny Redner, a coach in Warwick's Youth Basketball League, said he is surprised, because Sura was such an involved parent. ?It?s insane, because the money is there for the kids to get their education in sports,? Redner said.A similar embezzlement scandal is playing out within the Washingtonville Soccer Club. Earlier this month, cops arrested 47-year-old James Mohre, the club?s former president. He's accused of taking more than $131,000 from that organization.
