Betty White Challenge: How you can participate and donate to your local animal shelter

In honor of the late actress Betty White’s 100th birthday, fans are being invited to participate in the Betty White Challenge sweeping the nation.
The Betty White Challenge encourages fans of the late actress, who was an animal advocate and passed away on Dec 31, 2021 at the age of 99, to donate $5 to animal rescues and shelters in her name.
If you’re looking to participate in the challenge, below are ways you can donate to your local shelter:

1. Donate money

Check out websites for the shelters in your area, most will have a link where you can donate money. You can also donate to organizations that help animals in need, like the ASPCA.

2. Donate items

Animal shelters take donations of all types, including items like blankets, detergent, food, treats, collars, leashes, and indestructible toys. Call your shelter and find out if they have a list of most needed items.

3. Volunteer

Are you interested in making a difference in the life of a shelter animal? Volunteer your time! You can volunteer at the shelter, volunteer during fundraising events, or even foster a pet. Talk to your local shelter to see what needs they have.

4. Adopt a pet

If you’ve been thinking that it’s time to add a pet to your family, consider adopting from a local shelter or rescue group. Be sure to find out from the group you are considering adopting from what their adoption process is like.
