Bridgeport-based health food company creates nutritional products for people with autism

A Bridgeport-based health food company that manufactures gluten-free and peanut-free plant-based snacks has created a protein bar for those with autism.
Arshad Bahl is the owner of Amrita Health Foods on the East Side of Bridgeport, and he was inspired to create better quality and more nutritious foods after his two sons were diagnosed with autism and severe gastrointestinal issues.
Amrita makes food products for a variety of diets including gluten-free and peanut-free, plant-based, and keto.
Bahl says most people don't realize that most young people with autism also suffer serious gastrointestinal problems, making them intolerant to many processed foods.
He says the new line of products was developed nutritionally for people with autism in mind.
Bahl says he also uses a program with two local nonprofits and has seven young adults with autism working at his business.
