A Deer Park mom who lost her daughter in a boating accident joined lawmakers Thursday to announce legislation that they hope will put some teeth into the state's BWI laws.

Gina Lieneck lost her daughter Brianna 16 years ago when another boat crashed on top of them and crushed her daughter.

"Another boat came over the top of my boat, ripped off a 1,200-pound canopy and killed my daughter," says Lieneck. "There was no hope because she broke her neck."

The driver of the other boat was facing BWI charges but was later cleared. That just made Lieneck even more passionate about getting laws changed.

As a result, Brianna's Law was passed. The law requires operators of power boats to take a boat safety course, but now lawmakers want to take it a step further.

The new legislation states that if you are convicted of BWI you will lose your driver's license.

Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon Jr. says there are plenty of jails and room for anyone who violates the law.

Lieneck says if the legislation doesn't pass this year, she will not give up the fight.
