Essex County preps for nor’easter; people urged to stay off county roadways

Essex County officials are urging residents to stay off the county’s roadways as a nor’easter approaches New Jersey.
A light dusting of snow has already fallen, and several more inches of snow are expected overnight and into Saturday. Trucks with the Essex County Department of Public Works are loaded and ready to go.
Essex County is also under a state of emergency. Roadway salting is expected to begin around 8 p.m., with more trucks hitting the roads around 10 p.m. The county will have about 30 trucks out on the roads at that time. Around 200 will be out sometime after midnight as the snow gets heavier.
“We need the residents of Essex County to really help us out. We want them to stay off our county roadways so that we can plow curb to curb,” says Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo. “People could stay home. We’d like them to stay home at least until the afternoon [Saturday.]”
County COVID-19 vaccination and testing sites will be closed this weekend and will reopen on Tuesday. Anyone who had an appointment scheduled for Saturday will be rescheduled for Tuesday.
