White Plains, Yonkers, Peekskill still enforcing parking meter laws

Make sure to bring quarters when picking up essential goods in some of Westchester's biggest cities.
White Plains, Yonkers and Peekskill are still enforcing their parking meter laws amid the coronavirus outbreak.
This is raising concerns for residents who are spending longer times navigating packed grocery stores and extended pharmacy lines - only to return back to their cars with a parking fine added on top of their shopping bill.
Mount Vernon and New Rochelle have stopped enforcing meters. White Plains has established free 10 minute pickup parking zones to encourage people to visit their favorite local businesses.
In the City of Peekskill, the city has added 15 minutes of free parking in front of restaurants for take out orders only. Police say the only tickets they would write are for those who are parking at these particular spots who are not picking up food and remain for extended times. They point out a meter ticket has not been issued since March 20.
Yonkers says most of its metered parking doesn't impact long-term shopping.
