Yonkers converts retired fire truck into power washer to fight coronavirus

“If it's good to wash our hands, it's good to wash down the benches where probably hundreds of people come, sit down, wait for the bus on any given day," says Yonkers Commissioner of Public Works Thomas Meier.

Yonkers officials are getting creative when sanitizing the city in the fight against the coronavirus.
The city is converting a retired fire truck into a power washer.
The truck will be used to disinfect common public areas. "We've been telling people at home to disinfect with the Clorox wipes or the alcohol wipes, we've been telling people wash your hands. So all these things, we're applying the same principles to the streets of Yonkers. So if it's good to wash our hands, it's good to wash down the benches where probably hundreds of people come, sit down, wait for the bus on any given day," says Yonkers Commissioner of Public Works Thomas Meier.
Meier says the truck will be deployed to several areas throughout the city on a regular basis.
