Congressmen call for Metro-North discounts extension to Hudson Valley riders
Reps. Pat Ryan (D-18) and Mike Lawler (R-17) are advocating for the extension of Metro-North discounts to riders in the Hudson Valley region.
Their call comes amidst the pending vote by the MTA board to approve a 10% discount on monthly passes for fare zones within the five boroughs.
However, this discount would solely apply to Metro-North passes between Grand Central Terminal and the northern Bronx, excluding riders in Westchester and the Hudson Valley.
In a letter addressed to the MTA's CEO, Ryan and Lawler express concern that the proposed discount prioritizes New York City over their communities. They argue that the MTA serves not only the five boroughs but also the Hudson Valley, where riders also contribute to the MTA tax.
The congressmen emphasize the importance of equitable treatment for all MTA riders, regardless of their geographical location, underscoring the need for fair and inclusive transportation policies.
