Big Blue fans ready for Super Bowl ticker-tape parade
As Giants fans celebrate their team's come-from-behind Super Bowl win against the Patriots, preparations are under way for a parade Tuesday in downtown Manhattan.
The underdog team beat the previously undefeated Patriots in Glendale, Ariz. Sunday. With less than three minutes left in the fourth quarter, Randy Moss caught a pass from Patriots quarterback Tom Brady to take a 14-10 lead.
With 35 seconds left in the game, Giants quarterback Eli Manning threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress. The Giants won 17-14.
Manning was the Super Bowl MVP with 255 yards and two touchdowns.
Fans say they had little doubt Big Blue would come through, despite having a slow start in the regular season. "I've been a fan for the last six years," says Dennis Rocco, of Congers. "It's been heartbreak after heartbreak. Finally, we beat someone up there from Boston too so it just makes it sweet."
Giants faithful wasted little time snagging coveted Super Bowl XLII championship gear. The Palisades Center Sports Authority opened at 6 a.m. Monday. Managers say they've sold almost $50,000 worth of merchandise and memorabilia since Sunday.
The 42nd Super Bowl champs will be treated to a ticker-tape parade starting at 11 a.m. through the Canyon of Heroes in lower Manhattan.
