The city doesn’t have any plans to bring ferry service to Canarsie, but residents are not taking no for an answer.
They are continuing to fight, pushing for a trial run and for elected officials to back them up in bringing more transportation options to the area.
Even though Mayor Bill de Blasio's New York City ferry expansion will not include a landing at the Canarsie pier, the Canarsie Improvement Association is still propelling forward, hoping to change the city's plans.

Marc Want, who is head of the association, and others say they disagree with the findings in the city's Economic Development Corporation's feasibility study released last month.
According to that summary, there is already good existing transit, an expectation of low ridership and a low number of people living within a 10-minute walk of the landing.
The study also says a ferry from Canarsie pier to downtown Manhattan would be similar in timing or slower than existing transit – a finding Want questions. This is why he is calling for a trial run.

Want says he and others who helped in getting about 6,000 signatures on a petition for the ferry service have plans to get help from elected officials to prove that ferry service is needed in Canarsie.
News 12 reached out to the New York City Economic Development Corporation, but has not heard back yet.
