"It's scary, very scary, for sure." "Hopefully this will die down after the election." "I hope they find whoever sent it." These are just some of the comments made by neighbors of Hillary and Bill Clinton in reaction to the news that a pipe bomb was sent to their home in Chappaqua.
Former President Bill Clinton was home at the time, but authorities say there was never any risk of the package being received.
While speaking at a Florida fundraiser, Hillary Clinton thanked the U.S. Secret Service for intercepting an explosive device in a package "long before it made its way to our home." Clinton was speaking at a Coral Gables fundraiser for Democratic congressional candidate Donna Shalala, a former Health and Human Services secretary. The former secretary of state says her family is grateful for the Secret Service's "service and commitment and obviously never more than today."
New Castle Town Supervisor Robert Greenstein says local police departments are working with federal authorities to determine where this bomb came from. "We really do love having the Clintons here, and with having them here comes certain responsibilities and we welcome those responsibilities," says Greenstein.
Greenstein says nothing like this has ever happened in Chappaqua, but given the current political tensions, he's not shocked. "We live in a time with incredible divisiveness, and it's unfortunate but these things don't surprise me."
At least five similar packages targeting Democrats were intercepted, prompting a federal investigation. The FBI confirmed two additional suspicious packages both addressed to Rep. Maxine Waters were found.
An explosive was also sent to former President Barack Obama's home and CNN's Manhattan headquarters.  Another that was intended for former Attorney General Eric Holder wound up in Florida.
Those devices are similar to one that was sent to George Soros' Bedford home on Monday. A suspicious package was also sent to California Rep. Maxine Watters, but it's unclear if that one was connected.
