The Children's Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick held a welcome party for a new staff member.
Burton is New Jersey’s first-ever hospital staff therapy dog. Burton will be on hand to provide comfort to kids who are receiving treatment.
"We hope that Burton is going to have a great time himself but also provide distraction and an opportunity for kids to bond with him,” says Bonnie Altieri, vice president of patient care services.
Altieri says that she hopes that Burton also helps make the children feel more at home in the hospital.
Staff members say that there could be potential for more dogs to join the pack in the future.
