The city has opened cooling centers across the boroughs as intense heat is on the forecast.

The Office of Emergency Management and the Health Department are advising people to really pay attention to their body during this week's expected heatwave.

The centers will be open today beginning at 8 a.m. across all five boroughs. Places like community centers, libraries and senior centers are the most common spots for cooling centers.

One thing to remember is high temperatures like the ones expected can be especially dangerous for older residents and young children, so officials advise to take precaution.

They say to keep these safety tips to keep in mind. First to get into an air-conditioned location, especially for those with have health problems. They also say to stay out of the sun and avoid extreme temperatures. It is not advised to doing any heavy activity during sun peak hours and as always to stay hydrated.

The city is reminding people to take care of themselves. Those having trouble breathing, have hot dry skin, dizziness or feel nauseous call 911.
