Cops: Major drug ring busted in Newburgh
Police in Newburgh say they busted a major drug ring that supplied 70 percent of the crack cocaine that hit city streets.
Police conducted raids on several homes Sunday and arrested 10 people. According to police, they found more than a kilo of cocaine, guns and cash.
Police say J.W. Hamilton and Frederick Roundtree, both of Newburgh, were the ring leaders of the enterprise. Investigators say Hamilton recruited his sister and his own mother, Dawn Yearwood, aka Ma Dukes, to stash contraband and sell drugs. Police Chief Eric Paolilli says several agencies have been looking at that crew since February.
Police say they hope the drug bust will make a difference on the streets. To view a police interview about the bust, go to channel 612 on your iO digital cable box and click on iO Extra.
