Gov. Andrew Cuomo traveled to Israel last week and spoke exclusively with News 12's Tara Rosenblum on a wide array of topics.
With the country celebrating the 100th anniversary of Congress passing the 19th Amendment and having more women in Congress than ever, Rosenblum asked the Governor about women leaders and who he admires the most. “I admire people who tend to go first. I admire people who break the trail. The second person down the trail always has the easier path because someone else has broken the trail. You know it's always easier to follow in the footsteps. That hard journey is the first set of footsteps."
Cuomo went on to list some women he looks up to. “Hillary Clinton, our Westchester neighbor, broke trail as a Democratic nominee for president. Very difficult time, a lot slings and arrows. She wasn't successful but she was the first woman down that trail. Judith Kay was the first woman to become head of the court of appeals, wasn't even supported by the women's bar association when my father appointed her. Janet DiFiore, former Westchester County District Attorney, superb head of the court of appeals. Beautiful role model for woman. Nancy Pelosi, another first in a very contentious political environment. You have a lot of opinions in Congress. A lot of people who know all the answers but may not know all the questions. And Nancy Pelosi as leader has to run this wide swath of ideologies and people from all over across the country, all with this heightened politics and this furor.”
