Dead carp turn up in Hackensack River
Residents of West Nyack say dozens of dead fish have turned up in the Hackensack River.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation says it was notified late last week about the dead fish. Agency officials say the fish deaths might be a natural occurrence because all the fish were carp.
The DEC says the carp could have been killed off because of stress from spawning, a virus or a change in water temperature.
The Rockland County Health Department says there is presently no health alert associated with the carp deaths.
