The family of a man struck in a Port Chester hit-and-run is pleading for the driver to come forward.
The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday on the 160 block of North Main Street.
Police say 78-year-old Jose Cortes had just finished eating at a cafe and decided to cross over to the opposite side of the road when a woman hit him and kept going.
News 12 spoke with the victim's son, Andrey Cortes, Wednesday. He said that people stepped in to help his father. One female driver stopped her vehicle and helped him get onto the sidewalk and out of the road. A manager from the X-S Hair Salon on North Main Street also helped him into the business, and that's when they called 911.
"When your father is 78 and gets hit by a car, you become very concerned, because you don't know exactly what condition he is in," Cortes says.
Port Chester police still have no leads, but they say the woman has dark hair and light skin and was driving a beige and white SUV.
Cortes is out of the hospital but has broken toes and bruising on his legs, his arms and his hips.
