An Army National Guardsman who was raised in Yonkers was laid to rest Wednesday in Reading, Pennsylvania, where his mother lives.

Specialist Anthony Kalladeen was killed in Iraq last week after his vehicle was hit by explosives. Kalladeen spent most of his childhood at Saint Andrus Children's Center in Yonkers after his mother could no longer take care of him. He volunteered there as an adult and was an inspiration to the kids.

Kalladeen was remembered of as a brave soldier and a well-respected man. Saint Andrus Children's Center plans to plant a tree as a memorial and Purchase College, where Kalladeen attended, is setting up a scholarship fund in his honor.

Kalladeen is the eighth soldier from Westchester to die fighting the war on terrorism.
