Hoboken city officials are preparing the city for potential flooding due to expected heavy rainfall cause by remnants of Florence.
Officials say that they are hoping to minimize the impact on the community by barricading flood-prone areas and by putting up no parking signs to remind residents to move their vehicles.
“We’ve been tracking the storm since its inception,” says Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla.
Hoboken is notorious for flooding during heavy rainfall. Bhalla says that the city and residents will also work together to make sure that all catch basins are clear.
The city does have several fully functional water pumps in the event there is major flooding in Hoboken.
“What they do is they will clear or drain out any rainfall as it arrives. So it's a very effective means that we have in reducing flooding in the area of the southwest and the western parts of Hoboken,” Bhalla says.
The mayor is also advising residents to remove any loose outdoor items and stay inside when possible.
News 12 New Jersey meteorologists say that Tuesday should see rain for most of the day, with strong thunderstorms possible by the afternoon.
