Local officials are coming together to denounce hate after an anti-immigrant sticker was posted in Peekskill.
Sen. Pete Harckham, Mayor Andre Rainey and other officials from the Hudson Valley came to Mount Lebanon Church Saturday to address the sticker and other signs of hate that have shown up in the area in recent months.
The sticker was found this week on The Rift Collectibles on South Street, plastered on top of the store's pride sign.
Joris Dyckman, Owner of The Rift Collectibles, doesn't know who put the sticker on his window but he recognized the group, as he'd seen their stickers before.
"I felt like it was an attack on the people that come to my store, to send that kind of message to regulars. I have a huge LGBT community and it seems like that's why that kind of message was sent," Dyckman said.
It is just one sticker that was found but it's believed that there are multiple stickers like it in other parts of the city.
"Today we are here quite simply to say no to that," said Harchkam. "Not in Peekskill, not in Westchester. No way, no how. Not on my watch."
The sticker is associated with a white supremacist website.
"To the people that posted that there, I feel bad for you that you have to hide your face and not say anything to anybody. I don't know why you'd be filled with so much hate against a group of people, but I hope you change your worldview," Dyckman said.
Police are investigating the incident.
