#N12BK: Puerto Rico six months after Maria
Six months after Hurricane Maria left a path of destruction across Puerto Rico, many are still left in the dark.
At least 100,000 residents do not have power, and 60 percent of the island remains without power, according to local officials.
Maria is the strongest storm to have hit the island nation in over a century.
Maria wreaked havoc on the U.S. territory in October and left nearly the entire island without electricity.
At least 64 people died during the hurricane. Although, the number of recorded dead has been widely criticized by U.S. and local officials, who believe there are more. Thousands are estimated to have died as an indirect result of the cyclone.
The storm destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes and caused nearly $100 billion in damage.
More than 100,000 residents fled to the U.S. despite limited flights to and from the territory.
FEMA has approved $1 billion for cleanup efforts.
Recovery has been slow, and Puerto Rico's electric power authority says it expects the island to have complete power restored by May.
