New LIRR president seeks rider input

New Long Island Rail Road President Philip Eng got an earful from downtrodden commuters at a public forum Thursday night at Adelphi University.
John Michno, of Mineola, rides the train to work daily and says he has observed his fair share of issues.
"I'm concerned because the service lately has not been very adequate on the main line," he said. "We've been having a lot of issues lately."
Those issues, Michno said, include signal problems and vehicles on tracks.
Eng is working to alleviate some of those problems, in part by hosting Thursday's forum.
"The intent is to continue on the dialogue that I started when I first started at the LIRR back in April," he said.
Eng said he's been talking to riders on their commutes, but Thursday's forum allowed people to get on a microphone and ask questions. People also filled out comment cards.
"Just to be heard is a huge step," one commuter said. "And it definitely makes people feel better about the LIRR."
Rider said they're optimistic about what changes Eng will bring about and that they hope they're positive ones.
Eng says there are plans to hold another open forum June 7 at MacArthur Airport, giving Suffolk residents a chance to voice their questions and concerns as well.
